Classes and Requirements for First Degree

Neophytes are given more responsibility for the grove. They are expected to:

  • Setup the altar before circles under the direction of the Summoner
  • Help with introductions of guests at ritual and making sure they are taken care of
  • Help with setting up the splash
  • Provide further assistance to the officiants as needed
  • Check on and work with Grove students as necessary
  • Notify the Priest/Priestess in event of absence from circles
  • Do all assignments in a timely fashion.

  • Understand what a true Call of Need is and how to differentiate that from a Call of Want.
    • Explain to your teacher about a Call of need you have responded to.
  • Write a ritual for a Blue Star Sabbat (non-hinge), from set up to feast (use a full script form; also include all formulas for incenses, oils). Write two workings in there, 1) a full drawing down for both deities and 2) a meditation. Be prepared to run your ritual as written using the meditation as the working.
  • Demonstrate the desire to work towards ongoing development of a personal relationship with Deity
  • Demonstrate a commitment to personal growth and development
  • Without looking at your first letter, write your second letter stating what you have learned as a neophyte and why you are ready to be an initiate. In the letter explain what it means to you to be an initiate and what the work of an initiate is as well as how you see your role both as an initiate and as part of Vela’s Inner Court to be.
